Shipper Terms
A list of terms commonly used by H/D fangirls, made by Kirsty.
- **
- Anything written between two asterix is an action, e.g. *hugs* would mean you were hugging someone.
- !!!11!one
- Poking fun at netspeak/plebes, generally used to express excitement. For example "Squee!!!11!one". As many exclamations marks and ones can be used as desired.
- Abbreviations
- I realise you all know (or should!) what "abbreviations" mean. However, GnH has many fanfic abbreviations that may confuse you. We have UL (Underwater Light), IP (Irresistable Poison), LUW (Love Under Will) and BW (Beautiful World). Most other fics are given their full title, or just shortened down, e.g. Seamus is Seamus would refer to Seamus is Seamus & You are Yourself.
- BSTs
- Big Serious Topics. For example "What is Harry and Draco's favourite chocolate?" is not a BST, but "Given their backgrounds, their lives, their personalities, Harry and Draco seem to have everything to lose should they take on a relationship. Why will they even try?" is. A question that is more serious and would generally produce longer answers/debates is a BST. Coined by Satal on XXXVII. The Adventures of Lightning Man & Ferret Boy, when we went through a little period of having some debates.
- Classics
- A "Classic" is a fic percieved to be important to GnH. We have many Classics - "Irresistable Poison" (Rhysenn), "Snitch!" (Alex), "Love Under Will" (Aja) are just some that are considered to be Classics. How or which fics are labelled as Classics is an on-going debate within GnH.
- BNF
- Big Name Fandom/Fan. Someone who is particularly well known in the fandom, but it depends on which part of the fandom you're in. GnH's BNFs are Rhysenn, Aja and Maya, among others.
- Fangirl
- Someone who is extremly fanatical about H/D.
- Fanboy
- The same as fangirl, but with the other gender. GnH has had approx. 6 fanboys, the most notable being Alex, Al and Ali.
- GATL
- This has two meanings. Great And T00by Love, or Great Angsty T00by Love. Whichever you prefer, really. To quote JediGinny - "To say that Harry and Draco have a great and t00by love, is to say that their love is, well, great and also wrought with boughts of one/both of them doing something generally t00by. Such as, breaking it off, misunderstandings, etc. It's essentially Great, but not perfect."
- Glomp
- A running, enthusiastic hug. Usually seen on the threads as *glomps* or *tackleglomps*, which would be to practically mow someone down.
- Gutter
- Being "in the gutter" or "acting guttery" would baisically mean you had your mind on dirty, shameful things! The gutter is referred to on GnH most of the time, mainly because we like to have Harry and Draco shagging and snogging constantly.
- Gutter Era
- Around threads 18 to 25 the big debates that previously dominated the ship got left behind and we had a lot of guttery fun. It was the first time that a lot of gutter graced GnH, therefore it is known and "The Gutter Era" to those who were around at the time. A lot of members left after the Gutter Era due to original members coming back and changing how the ship was running at that point. Since then we've been able to have a nice mix of both gutter and serious topics!
- Gutter Pirates
- Us. This originates from thread XXI, Snogged to Untimely Death after we went through a period of being mod thwapped by Plu every couple of posts. Because of this, we joked we were the rebels of SCUSA and we were actually sailing a pirate ship, which then turned into us being the Gutter Pirates of SCUSA.
- Guns
- The beginning of our ship name. This comes from "Snitch!" by Alex.
- Handcuffs
- The end of our ship name. This comes from "Irresistable Poison" by Rhysenn.
- *Horcruxes*
- A replacement action created when FAP mods prohibited "shagging" as a greeting on SCUSA threads. Shippers might begin a post with "*horcruxes everyone*" instead of glomping or shagging.
- L&L
- Leather & Libraries, the Draco/Hermione ship. We historically overtook them posting wise in thread XLIV, Row, you lazy Gutter Pirates, ROW!
- Lightning Post
- Usually seen at the top or bottom of a post, proclaiming it as a "lightning post". This means the post will be/was a short one, usually containing two or so quick answers to questions because the member doesn't have much time. It was coined on thread LX, We Want More Than The Wars of Our Fathers, by Ophelia_ccs, who proclaimed her post was going to be a "lightning fast" one.
- Lurker
- Someone who reads the threads but does not post on them or make themselves known. If you post on the thread after only reading, you will have come out of "lurkdom" or you have "delurked".
- MSN group
- The members of GnH who all talk on MSN. To join us just proclaim your MSN address!
- Newbie/n00b/n00bie
- Someone who is nice and new to our lovely ship. If you're reading this, it's probably you.
- NQ
- New Question. Feel free to ask some!
- Oldbie
- A member who has been around for a long time, probably for more than 15 or so threads.
- OTP
- One True Pairing, or the ship you like the best. Hopefully, if you're reading this your OTP is Harry/Draco!
- PP
- Pumpkin Pie, the Harry/Hermione ship, who we have had a friendly rivalry with as we attempt to catch them in the number of threads. We had a thread title - We Have a Pie to Eat - and they retaliated - We Don't Need Guns, But Handcuffs Have Possibilities. It's all good fun.
- Skit
- GnH members like to skit a lot. Skits are little scenarios played out in answer to a question, e.g:
- HARRY: Let's go on this giant scary rollercoaster!
- DRACO: Um.. no. I'm going on something much scarier!
- 5 minutes later...
- DRACO: *on teacups*
- HARRY: *blank stare*
- DRACO: Ride if you dare, Potter! *twirls*
- Skits on GnH generally end in Harry and Draco shagging, snogging, or generally getting up to no good. At one point we went through a period (around thread 21 onwards) of every skit ending in *shagshagshag*, which was quite amusing for us, at least!
- Squee
- To express delight, such as squealing or in the form of "yay!".
- Teh
- "The", but mixed around. Mainly to proclaim you are the best at something in a fangirly way. Often put before random words, e.g. "teh cool", to amplify importance.
- T00by
- Dorky, but in an endearing way. You can be a t00b, you can be acting t00by, or you can be t00bing around. Can really be used in any sense, and was originally coined in an IRC (NC-17 site) chat room by Kissaki and Erin and spread via livejournal. Callie (Culavariel) wrote The Depth of My T00by Woes, which might make it easier for you to understand and is a must read for all GnHers.
- UST
- Unresolved Sexual Tension, which Harry and Draco have in buckets.
